Floating FAQs
Can I float if I am pregnant?
Yes, pregnant women love floating and can float anytime up to 37 weeks.
What does Floatopia provide for my float?
We provide everything you’ll need for the float session in your private float room, including Fresh towels, earplugs, shampoo, soap, and a hairdryer. We have disposable combs to use, as you will be washing your hair but if you want to bring your brush, feel free.
Can I drown if I fall asleep?
No! The concentrated Epsom salts in the tank make you so buoyant that there’s no danger you’ll accidentally rollover if you fall asleep. Float rooms are much safer than most other bodies of water because of the high concentration of salt. It is impossible to sink in a float room.
Do I wear a bathing suit?
No, you have your own private room with a locking door so there is plenty of privacy. When you are floating, you can almost lose sense of where your body ends and the water begins, you don’t want to feel anything on your body.
Can I float if I am claustrophobic?
There are some floaters who have even slight claustrophobia but are yet still are drawn to floating. Our float rooms, with their glass doors that are easily pushed open at any time during your float, are definitely preferable to “pod” style float rooms you may see elsewhere. If you have never tried it, know that you can get up and come out anytime during your float.
What is the water temperature in a float tank?
The temp of the water and the air in the float rooms are matched to your skin temperature so you don’t feel where the water ends and you begin.
What is your cancellation policy?
Appointments can cancelled for a full refund up until 24 hours before appointment time.
How do you clean the float rooms?
Our 4 float tanks each have 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt and 300 gallons of water. The water is constantly circulated through a 5-micron filter and through a disinfecting UV light and an Ozone generator 24 hours a day unless someone is in there floating. We maintain a level of 50ppm of H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) in each room and test the water several times a day to ensure cleanliness. Also, the concentration of salt to water is so incredibly high, it is naturally hygenic and sterile.
Between floats, all touch points and the shower area are washed down with a mixture of bleach and an antimicrobial cleanser. The rooms are washed down and dried so they are super fresh and sanitary for our next guest.
Can I shave prior to my float?
Try to avoid shaving on the day of your float session. Because the water has a high salt content, some people find it irritating to freshly shaved skin. We do provide Vaseline in every room for you to cover any small cuts and grazes. If necessary, this can help to cover shaved skin too.
What else should I avoid prior to my float?
Please try and refrain from drinking excessive caffeine or eating a big meal before your float
Can I float if I am menstruating?
Yes, just prepare as if you were going swimming.
Are there any age restrictions?
No restrictions as long as you can stay still in the float room and simply “float” and that you can get in and out of the float room yourself.
There have been children who float, ususally teenagers. One just must be able to lie back and stay still in the float room.
Older floaters will keep in mind that one must also be able to get in and out of the float room yourself or bring an assistant. Please be aware that our float rooms have wet surfaces that may be slippery. If you need extra non slip rugs and mats please let us know.
